League of Legends Worlds 2023: Meta-Shaking Champion Buffs and Item Nerfs!

Blog No Comments

Hey Summoners! The latest League of Legends Worlds patch notes are here, and they’re set to dramatically shift the meta before the year’s biggest tournament. Get ready, because Draven, Jinx, and Caitlyn are all receiving significant power boosts, along with some item upgrades. On the flip side, Redemption is getting nerfed, opening the door for other items to make their mark.

Bot Lane Power Plays:
Patch 25.19 brings a host of buffs to bot lane champions ahead of the tournament. Draven and Jinx, in particular, can become terrifying threats in the right hands. Draven’s Blood Rush now grants him more attack speed, and his ultimate has been tuned for increased damage. Jinx, who has been a bit absent from pro play, is also getting some attention from Riot. Her Q ability now has a longer range in the early game, and her E deals more damage. Even Caitlyn, a potent force in lower ELO games, gets a slight buff with her base AD increasing from 60 to 62, hopefully making her a Worlds contender.

Mid Lane Meteors:
It’s not just the bottom lane getting love! Ahri has been significantly buffed, alongside champions like Brand, Corki, and Diana. Riot noted Ahri was underperforming, so her ultimate, Spirit Rush, has been improved to make aggressive plays more rewarding. Brand, a versatile pick, is buffed because he was “a bit weak, especially in heavy income roles.” His passive, W, and ultimate have seen substantial AP scaling increases – his W gets +70% AP, and his ultimate gains +30% AP. Diana, a strong mid-laner with jungling potential, benefits from an improved monster modifier on her passive, making jungle clears easier (up from 2.6x to 3x). LeBlanc, while having mid-lane potential, is buffed for better wave control and burst damage. Riot aims to make her stronger in her more advantageous side lane roles with an +80% AP buff to her W and R. Riot also wants to see more AP junglers at Worlds, so Lillia receives considerable buffs with a +45% AP increase to her ultimate and a reduced cooldown (140/120/100).

Item Tweaks:
In recent patches, Riot has focused on balancing items. Redemption, a staple for tank supports, now heals for 150-350 (down from 200-400 based on target level). This nerf gives items like Locket of the Iron Solari and Knight’s Vow a better chance to be picked.

How these changes will truly shake up the meta at Worlds remains to be seen, but they definitely open the door for some exciting developments at the highest level of League of Legends!
